Background
In Bangladesh, a number of students graduate in health economics from several institutions every
year. However, they face several problems and challenges afterwards: the lack of practical
experience; shortfall of skilled health economists to carry out cost-effective analysis, economic
modelling and forecasting; limited networking opportunities with national -international experts
etc.
To remove these barriers, The Centre for Health Economics, University of York, proposed to
support the ARK Foundation and the Bureau of Economic Research (BER) of Bangladesh to
build “Health Economics Research Network” to unite the experts of health economics. The
network aims to bring together the local and the international partners, experts, economists,
scholars, researchers and teachers from the field of health economics. Through research
facilities, supervision and training (including online modules), the network intents to bridge the
knowledge gap, create a platform and strengthen partnership amongst the local researchers to
carry out context-specific research in the field of health economics.
